About Ettie

Ettie's long and varied career in international schools has offered her a first hand view of the needs of school constituents, including host country authorities, staff, parents, students, administration and school boards. She is passionate about sharing her experience, research and strategies with communities worldwide, and assisting them to thrive in a multicultural and multilingual world.

Dear Visitor,

During my varied and long career in international schools I have served as a teacher of grades preK-12, a Coordinator, an assistant principal and a school head. I have lived and worked in American/international schools in the U.S.A, Israel, Singapore, Spain, Guatemala and China, where my husband and I have proudly raised three Cross-cultural/Third Culture Kids.

As a practitioner and a parent, I am sensitive to the challenges of families and educators who are internationally mobile. I am also well-versed in the challenges of multi-cultural and multi-lingual schools. As an international school director, I am quite familiar with the most important work of recruiting, relocating and retaining quality educators, and transitioning them into the culture of the school community.

I have conducted research on international schools in the Netherlands, international school educators and on Third Culture Kids and their families worldwide.  I have enjoyed writing numerous articles for professional journals, and published “Third Culture Kids: The Children of Educators in International Schools” in 2009, through John Catt, Ltd.

I have conducted workshops, given lectures and seminars to my own school constituents, and was invited to engage other school communities, as well. My audiences have been varied, including students, educators, board members, administrators, parents from within the school community and those from other school communities, host country nationals and expatriates residing in the city, and corporate business leaders.

I have presented to various Chambers of Commerce, Expat Network Organizations, SOS- International, Universities, and to Regional/professional Associations:  ELMLE, ECIS, MAIS, CEESA, TRI-ASSOCIATION, EARCOS, TAISI & AAIE. I have been interviewed by numerous journals, news outlets and China Radio.

Speaking a number of languages helps me connect and relate well to various communities and cultures; and, I am also experienced speaking the ‘language’ of educators, parents, students, administrators and governors/owners.

I have enjoyed teaching as an Adjunct Professor for university Graduate programs of Education and Educational Leadership. (Lehigh, College of New Jersey, Framingham, Endicott Universities).  I am always enervated when I can address audiences and help them reach greater understanding in their profession and in their personal lives.

I earned my doctoral degree from Lehigh University in Educational Leadership; a Master’s from The College of New Jersey in Educational Administration and Second Language Acquisition; an additional Master’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Therapeutic Recreation; and a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education.

I am based in Arizona, USA.  I welcome your interest and look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Ettie
